The following regulations must be strictly followed when carrying e-cigarettes on the plane to ensure safety and compliance:
No consignment allowed. It must be carried with you
Electronic cigarettes and their spare batteries and cartridges must be kept in handbags or carry-on luggage throughout the journey. They are strictly prohibited from being placed in checked luggage. Vibration and pressure during the consignment process may damage lithium batteries, posing a risk of spontaneous combustion.
Battery capacity limit
The rated energy of lithium-ion batteries shall not exceed 100Wh (watt-hours), and the lithium content of lithium metal batteries shall not exceed 2g.
Batteries with a rated energy ranging from 100Wh to 160Wh require the consent of the airline and each person is limited to carrying two. Batteries with a capacity exceeding 160Wh are prohibited from being carried or mailed.
Rules for carrying e-liquid
As a liquid, the volume of a single bottle container of e-liquid must not exceed 100ml, and it should be placed in a transparent and sealable plastic bag. Each person is limited to carrying one such plastic bag.
When returning to China, inbound passengers can carry two e-cigarette devices and six cartridges duty-free (with a total liquid capacity not exceeding 12ml). The number of arrivals from Hong Kong and Macao has been halved.
Proactive declaration and inspection
When going through security checks, you should proactively hand over your e-cigarette to the staff for inspection to avoid misjudgment or delay caused by the complex structure of the device.
Make sure the battery has a clear capacity mark and is in good condition. It is recommended to pack the battery in a battery box to prevent any accidents during flight.
The cigarette rod is separated from the cigarette cartridge
The cigarette stick and the cigarette cartridge must be carried separately. The cigarette stick can be carried with you, but it is recommended to carry the unopened cigarette cartridge with you as well to prevent damage or oil leakage due to changes in air pressure during transportation.
Avoid accidental startup
It is best to pack e-cigarettes separately in insulating bags to avoid mixing them with metal items such as keys and prevent short circuits and smoke.
Prohibited throughout the process.
The cabin of the aircraft is equipped with a smoke alarm system. Smoke produced by smoking (including e-cigarettes) can cause the system to alarm and affect the normal flight of the aircraft.
Smoking in the cabin is prone to cause fires and seriously endangers flight safety. Therefore, the Civil Aviation Administration requires all airlines to treat e-cigarettes equally with regular smoking and prohibit their use or charging on board.
Consequences of illegal use
Using e-cigarettes on a plane may result in penalties such as fines, administrative detention, or even being blacklisted for no-fly status. Some passengers have been fined and administratively detained for smoking e-cigarettes on the plane.
